Phuket expects more than 140,000 visitors during its annual Vegetarian Festival from 9–18 October 2026, generating at least ฿1.4 billion ($43 million) in local spending. The Taoist celebration will feature ceremonies at more than 40 Chinese shrines, daily street processions and a special nighttime procession.
The festival is one of Phuket’s most important cultural-tourism events, combining the island’s Thai-Chinese heritage with significant economic benefits for hotels, restaurants, merchants and other local businesses.
The festival officially begins at 5:09 PM on 9 October with the raising of the Go Teng pole. Street processions will run from 11–18 October, including a special nighttime procession on 11 October. Authorities are deploying additional police and traffic personnel along major routes.
