Fitness Tourism Accelerates as ‘Race-Cations’ Reshape Global Travel

Fitness tourism is becoming a global travel force as athletes build holidays around HYROX, Ironman and other endurance events. HYROX expects participation to reach 1.5 million in its 2025–26 season, while hotels and cruise operators are launching specialised race, training and recovery packages for active travellers worldwide and their families.
Race-cations generate valuable spending across hotels, airlines, restaurants, wellness centres and local attractions. Athletes frequently travel with supporters and extend their stays, making endurance events increasingly attractive to tourism destinations and hospitality brands.
HYROX is expected to expand further across Asia, including India. Hyatt is developing athlete-focused stays, while the inaugural HYROX Cruise will combine racing, training and recovery during a Mediterranean sailing.

2025–26 season: HYROX expands across more than 30 countries.

2026: Bangkok and Singapore host major HYROX competitions.

October 21–25, 2026: The first HYROX Cruise sails from Mallorca via Marseille and Barcelona.

Next phase: More destinations and hospitality companies are expected to introduce race-cation packages.
