Thai airport staff can now open suspicious checked bags without owners present
New rules took effect on 16 October letting Thai airport security officers open checked bags without the passenger present when X-ray screening flags suspicious items. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand said searches must be recorded, done in designated areas, and passengers notified afterwards by a notice inside the bag.
Travellers flying from Thai airports may find checked bags opened in their absence. CAAT advises using TSA-compatible locks, checking for prohibited items and keeping valuables and documents in hand luggage.
