Myanmar Resistance Drones Strike Military Air Base at Mandalay Airport

Myanmar’s main pro-democracy resistance says it carried out a drone attack against the military air base inside Tada-U International Airport near Mandalay. The resistance said it targeted facilities used by military aircraft while avoiding the civilian airport, which temporarily suspended flights following the attack.
Resistance forces are increasingly using sophisticated drones to challenge Myanmar’s military advantage in the air. An ability to threaten military aviation infrastructure could alter battlefield dynamics in a civil war that has continued since the 2021 coup.
Myanmar’s military is expected to strengthen counter-drone protection around airports and air bases. Authorities are preparing to restore civilian operations at Mandalay airport while resistance forces may continue targeting military aviation infrastructure.
