Indian PM Modi Calls for UPI’s Wider Global Integration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai and urged international integration of India’s Unified Payments Interface. UPI processed 24.51 billion transactions worth $314.21 billion in August. Modi also proposed collective fintech goals covering cybersecurity, ethical data protection, regulatory collaboration, innovation and stronger consumer protection standards worldwide.
Wider payment-system integration could lower remittance costs, simplify cross-border transactions and increase the international reach of India’s digital public infrastructure.
India will pursue connections with additional national payment networks. The fintech industry has also been encouraged to develop stronger cybersecurity, data-protection and consumer-protection frameworks.
