Analog Devices Bets $1.35 Billion on AI Moving From Cloud Into Physical Devices
Analog Devices agreed to acquire AI-chip developer Alif Semiconductor for $1.35 billion in cash, expanding its ability to run artificial intelligence directly on devices. The combination brings together Analog Devices' sensing and signal-processing technologies with Alif's processors designed for real-time AI workloads.
The AI boom is expanding beyond giant cloud data centers. Running AI directly on industrial equipment, vehicles, medical devices and other physical systems can reduce latency, improve privacy and allow machines to respond without constantly communicating with remote servers.
Analog Devices will work to integrate Alif's AI processors with its existing sensing, power-management and signal-processing portfolio as competition intensifies around so-called edge AI.
