India Celebrates 50 Years of Dryland-Agriculture Innovation

India marked 50 years of agricultural research cooperation between ICAR and ICRISAT during Dryland Congress 2026 in New Delhi. Their partnership has delivered climate-resilient crop varieties, stronger seed systems, regenerated landscapes and productivity gains for smallholders. The congress is developing further South–South collaboration for resilient agriculture across dryland regions worldwide.
Drylands support more than two billion people globally. Research developed through the Indian partnership can help small farmers manage water scarcity, degraded land, changing climates and nutrition challenges.
The congress concludes on September 12 with South–South cooperation sessions. Organisers plan to adopt the Delhi Declaration on Dryland and announce partnerships, memoranda of understanding and awards.
