India’s Industrial Activity Remains Strong as Manufacturing Gains Momentum

India’s industrial activity remained robust in July, with industrial production growing 6.7%, compared with 5.4% a year earlier, according to a report cited by IANS. Stronger manufacturing and electricity generation supported the expansion, while expectations of improving consumption are adding to optimism about the broader economic outlook.
Manufacturing growth is particularly important for India's ambition to create jobs, expand exports and become a larger part of global supply chains. Strong industrial activity also provides a positive signal ahead of India's next official quarterly GDP estimates, scheduled for release on August 31.
Markets will closely watch the government's Q1 FY2026–27 GDP estimates on August 31 for a broader assessment of economic momentum. Consumer demand, manufacturing output, infrastructure investment and exports will be key indicators to watch.
