Indian Space Startup GalaxEye Secures US Patent for All-Weather Satellite Imaging
Indian space startup GalaxEye has secured a US patent for technology synchronising optical and radar satellite sensors. The system captures precisely aligned images of the same location simultaneously, enabling Earth observation through cloud cover and darkness. Founded by IIT Madras engineers, the company plans a 30-satellite constellation within five years.
Combining optical and radar observations could provide more consistent, actionable Earth data for defence, agriculture, insurance and disaster response. The US patent also strengthens GalaxEye’s intellectual-property position as it pursues international customers in a satellite-imaging market projected to reach $20.15 billion by 2033.
GalaxEye plans to develop and deploy 30 satellites over the next five years. Its acquisition of spacecraft-engineering company StarOps is expected to strengthen in-house manufacturing and satellite-system capabilities.
