Thailand Shines in 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 with Ten Recognized Sites
Thailand has strengthened its global standing in sustainable tourism, with ten destinations earning a place in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 list. The announcement came on September 29 at the Green Destinations Global Conference in Montpellier, France, organized by the Netherlands-based Green Destinations Foundation.

Among the honorees was Mu Ko Lanta National Park in Krabi, celebrated for its conservation initiatives and strong community involvement. Thai representatives at the event included Eurblarp Siriphiromya, Executive Director of the Tourism Products Department at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT); Suphida Onbanchong, Director of the TAT Governor’s Office; Therdthai Khwanthong, Director of Protected Area Regional Office 5; and Chaiyapruek Weerawong, Chief of Mu Ko Similan National Park.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said the recognition underscores Thailand’s ongoing efforts to drive sustainable tourism. She highlighted TAT’s commitment to eco-friendly travel practices through initiatives like the STGs Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating, Carbon Footprint Hotels program, and the Thailand Tourism Awards — all aligned with international sustainability benchmarks.
A highlight of the recognition was Mu Ko Lanta National Park’s project, “Returning Homes to Hermit Crabs,” featured under the theme “A Hero’s Tale from Lanta Island.” The initiative tackles the shortage of seashells and marine debris affecting hermit crab habitats by encouraging both tourists and locals to donate shells, helping restore ecosystems and promote long-term conservation.
The other Thai destinations featured on the list are:
-
Royal Park Rajapruek (Chiang Mai)
-
Kui Buri National Park (Prachuap Khiri Khan)
-
Uthai Thani Old Town
